At Norwood Public School, we have a strong and active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Parents volunteer their time, talent and energy to perform many tasks which provide both social and educational benefits to our children. Our teachers are always available to support the PTO’s programs.
Our PTO provides many culturally enriching events for students, such as Author Day programs, Eyes on Art, Ears Tuned to Music, and special Cultural Arts performances. This year, our after school enrichment clubs will run two 4-week sessions in the fall and again in the winter. This program offers students fun and educational classes to enhance their daily educational experiences.
We want our children to have access to the latest in educational technology. The PTO supports the purchase of computers, accessories and other technologies, including a state-of-the-art sound system in our All Purpose Room and weather station in our upper-grade science room.
In addition to promoting educational technology, the PTO has successfully transitioned from a paper system of flyers and newsletters to an electronic system by way of our website, www.norwoodpto.com, and an e-mail system which sends announcements home to parents without cumbersome papers. Members can find our calendar of events, committee updates throughout the year, officer contact information as well as a link to the school website to help keep in touch with teachers and other staff members at school. This is also where lunches are ordered throughout the year. Check in the spring for the opportunity to order supplies for the following school year. Please visit and register as a user.
The PTO also assists our school community through committees such as Health and Safety and We Care, which provides help in various ways to members of our community who have suffered a loss or need help in other ways. Our Hospitality committee provides refreshments at various events such as the Teacher’s Welcome Breakfast, Grandparents Day, our New Parents Meet and Greet, and various staff appreciation days throughout the year. The PTO organizes volunteer library aids for kindergarten through third grade and class parents for all grades. Our class parents assist teachers with special events they wish to hold in the classroom, class trips and field day.
In order to support these programs, the PTO holds several fundraising events during the year. These include our bi-annual fashion shows and talent shows, product sales, walk-a-thon, book fair, Box Tops and other organized corporate fundraising programs. We also raise funds through advertising in our directory, so please patronize the businesses in our book and thank them for supporting the PTO and our school.
Most importantly, the PTO helps create the wonderful community that is Norwood while enabling parents to participate in their child’s school experience. Through this process we are able to form bonds with one another and or school. If you volunteer, thank you. If you would like to become involved, we welcome you. All parents are invited to attend our monthly meetings. Please refer to the Calendar of Events, the monthly school calendar or our website for meeting dates. Please join us.
