March, 2010
March brings an end to the cold, snowy days of winter and a promise of warmer spring days. The cast and crew members of the school play, Dear Edwina, have been hard at work getting ready for show time on March 11 and 12. Be sure to order your tickets early, as this event always sells out.
We have another author day event coming up in March. Young adult writer, Robert Lipsyte, will be at our school on March 10 to speak with the students in grades 6-8. It’s always a treat for our children to be able to meet an author whose books they have been reading. Author visits give the children the opportunity to hear about the many stories of inspiration from successful writers. Perhaps one day one of our graduates will return to speak to future students at NPS about being a successful writer.
The next PTO meeting is Wednesday, March 10 at 8 pm in the school library. We will have a representative from the Board of Education presenting information on the upcoming school budget. If you only attend one PTO meeting during this school year, this is the one to come to.
Also during the month of March, the CAP team will be in school giving presentations at each grade level. CAP stands for Child Assault Prevention, and this program has been developed at a grade appropriate level to help children understand their safety rights and what to do if they feel they need help. Keep an eye out for information in your child’s backpack regarding their grade’s program.
We have many more activities to bring to school before the end of the year, and are always looking for new ideas. Feel free to contact any member of our Executive Board with your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Colleen Steele
PTO President
