PTO GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
September 14, 2011
I. Call to order at 8:04pm.
A. Reading of minutes of June 2011 meeting read by Fran Drucker. Pam Abramawitz makes a motion to approve. Karen Simon seconds the motion, all in favor, none opposed, motion passes.
II. Executive Committee Reports
A. President’s Report-Samantha Fruhling
Samantha introduced the new Executive Board. She discussed that members of the PTO should call Chona for computer questions and 8th grade committee questions should be directed to the 8th grade committee. Membership is doing well. The Red Cross babysitting class is in big demand and highly successful. Send emails to Samantha first, do not send to directly to Chona. 5K training club for the Norwood Run, trainings will be 3:15-4:15 on Thursdays. Join twitter. Birthday book club is back on. Pavers deadline is December.
B. Treasurer’s Report-Betsy Gillon
Made $45,000 last year. Trying to do the carnival.
C. Corresponding Secretary-Karen Simon
Keeho Lee wrote to the PTO for the instrumental award. Caitlin Ubl thanked the PTO for the gift cards for her hard work in reading and language arts. Julia Kang thanked the PTO for the award for her vocal awards.
D. School Principal-Brian Gatens
He introduced himself to the PTO. He is excited for his new position and to be working with the PTO. There are some changes to the pick up and dismissal. Each month will be a community service. Excited for the Norwood Run.
III. Committee Reports
A. After School Clubs-Karen Simon
Registration will end on 9/22.
B. Art Cards-Eve Rocco-not present
C. Class Parents-Kathy Moon
Still needs class parents for 7th grade. Please put transaction number on all checks.
D. Cultural Arts-Ilisa Lansey
Three returning programs. On 12/7 the 4th grade will do Lenape. K-2 will be Gerald Fierst. 3rd grade will be Lincoln Center. New program in October called “Slam Dunk” about self esteem for the whole school.
E. Directory-Melissa Feldstein
14 advertisers so far. The book is close to be finished, just waiting for a few more things.
F. 8th grade committee-Christine Hagemann
New lunch program has been instituted. The cash and carry of the food Was to difficult, and she doesn’t recommend doing it for next year. 9/24 is the car wash. Continue to do wrapping paper sales, Lord Taylor party and the restaurant discount cards this year.
G. KPSC-Kathy Moon
Introduced the new chairperson, Yun Joo. They will continue to do similar programs like the lunar lunch and crossing guard breakfast.
H. Spirit Wear-Nikki Kranzler/Liza Tish
New clothes are out!! Available online, at back to school & Norwood Day.
I. Walkathon-Fran Drucker
The walkathon is 10/21 and the raindate is 10/28. Same format as last year. We will collect the pledge cards and money upfront, and do the fundraiser ourselves.
J. Boutique Fair-Sally Seidenfrau
Will be held on November 3rd at 7pm. There are 7 confirmed vendors.Vendors will pay a $75 table fee and donate 10% of the sales to the PTO.
K. Book Fair-Carolyn Giannakas
Will be held on 10/25-10-28 in the APR on stage.
L. Author Day-Marlena McMahon
K-2 will have Suzie Kline as the guest author in April. Douglas Florian has been secured for grades 3-5, and grades 6-8 will meet Rodman Fillbrick. She has also secured Patricia Pelaco for next year.
